Organizational Assessment

Our clients often discuss with us the gap that seems to exist between the IM/IT group and the client organizations, and the communication problems that this causes. We have employed a number of techniques to address this issue.

We conduct organizational assessments by talking directly with management in client and IM/IT groups, to review the organizational structure, processes, tools and techniques, and to provide an assessment and recommendations for improvement in all those areas.

Organizational Review and Alignment

IM/IT organizations are often formed over time as the result of mergers with other organizations, including major projects, and change over time due to the changes in methods and technologies deployed by them. To ensure that the organization is aligned to best suit the needs of the business that it serves, Greymark Inc. follows a proven approach to review the organization and suggest changes in the organizational structure. We start by reviewing the current structure, interviewing the management teams within the client and IM/IT groups, and reviewing workload trends. We then move to create a functional view of the organization. We confirm with the management team that all of the functions are represented within this model before proceeding further. Then we transform that functional model into a revised organizational structured suited to meet current and future needs.

Implementing a new organizational structure is one of the toughest jobs for an IM/IT executive. There is often strong resistance to change within the organization, which can derail the transition to a more effective environment. Greymark Inc. has witnessed this resistance and has developed tools and techniques to assist executives with this challenge. Starting with communication strategies through to one-on-one discussions, we help to ensure that people feel comfortable with the transition and can clearly see themselves in the new organization.

IM/IT Sourcing Strategies

The Public Service Modernization Act requires that all departments and agencies have an HR Plan. That Plan deals with the employees within the organization. In most organizations those employees need to be supplemented with external resources in order to meet peak demands and to satisfy the need for specialized technical skills. Greymark Inc. works with the IM/IT group to review the HR Plan, to assess the current procurement mechanisms and approaches, and recommend a sourcing strategy and action plan to ensure that the organization has both the capacity and the capability to deliver the services requested of it.
